Cuir de Russie

Photographic Series

A series of photographs translating the sensuality and nostalgia of the Cuir de Russie fragrance into visual imagery. This series of images was intended to be displayed on Instagram, and can be viewed here.

Beyond the initial sensuality of Cuir de Russie, I was reminded of the civic centre near my family home. The civic centre is a grade II listed modernist building, and houses the town library. The scent specifically brings me back to the libraries interior - not it’s books or various clubs and activities - but it’s bleak, clinical emptiness. Visiting the library as a child in the 1990s felt similar to a hospital appointment, or visiting my aunties office in the city, or being taken to any building for grown ups against my will. I’ve tried to capture some of that nostalgia, as well as the sensuality of the perfume through these double exposed film captures.
